Difference between Chevron and Herringbone

The name Herringbone comes from the similarity of the pattern to the bone structure of a herring fish. This pattern was first used for paving systems in the Roman Empire to make roads more stable. The Herringbone pattern was popular in wood flooring during the 16th century, and the first known example can be found in the Francois 1 Gallery at the Château de Fontainebleau in France.

Chevron is a pattern that looks like an inverted V. It was first used in ancient pottery design in Knossos, Crete, dating back to the Bronze Age. It was also used as flooring in Europe in the 16th century. The Chevron floor looks like a long line of straight arrows.

Herringbone and Chevron patterns are timeless and stylish. If you're looking for a floor that stands out, these two patterns are the ones to go with.

Main Difference

The fundamental distinction between the Herringbone and Chevron patterns is that the Herringbone planks' ends are cut at a 90-degree angle, whereas the Chevron planks' ends are cut at a 45-degree angle. This is why the Herringbone pattern has a fractured zigzag pattern, but the Chevron pattern has a continuous zigzag pattern with each side meeting point to point.

There are several reasons why homeowners often choose one type of flooring over the other including personal preferences, price, aesthetics, durability, and installation requirements.
