Cassia Pear Solitaire

A pear-cut moissanite, point towards the hand, held by five claws — two at the shoulders, two at the belly and one V-shaped claw protecting the tip. That last claw is the detail that matters: the point of a pear is the most vulnerable part of the stone, and an unprotected tip chips.

The band narrows slightly as it meets the setting, which keeps the eye on the stone rather than the metal.

The stone. Moissanite is silicon carbide, grown in a laboratory. It is a gemstone in its own right, not a diamond. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it is suitable for a ring worn every day.

Wearing it. A pear points along the finger, so it reads longer than a round stone of the same weight. Worn with the point towards the fingernail, as shown.
