Hastings in the 2021 census: 40,454 households, 64% houses, 36% flats.

Hastings covers TN34, TN35, TN37 and TN38 — Castle, Central St Leonards, Gensing, Ashdown, Baird, Braybrooke and Conquest. It is a district of East Sussex. Hastings is the one town on this list where ownership rose between the censuses, from 55.2% to 56.6%, while private renting edged down to 28.6%. It is still by some distance the highest private rented share we deliver to — more than one home in four. Much of that sits in the large Regency and Victorian houses of St Leonards, subdivided into flats.
