Milton Keynes was designated a new town in 1967 and grew from about 60,000 people to 248,800 by the 2011 census, so unlike almost every other city on this list its housing is overwhelmingly modern. That simplifies one thing and complicates another. The ground floor is nearly always a concrete slab or screed rather than suspended timber, so levelling is usually a smaller job — but underfloor heating is common, and over a heat source engineered wood is the correct construction and solid timber is not.
