Newport covers NP10, NP18, NP19 and NP20 — Allt-yr-yn, Alway, Beechwood, Bettws, Gaer, Graig, Caerleon, and Bishton and Langstone. It is a Welsh unitary authority. Ownership was 62.9% at the 2021 census with social renting at 19.5% and private renting 16.7% — over a third of homes rented, which is high for Wales. Newport was a docks and steel town and the terraced housing reflects that: suspended timber ground floors, narrow rooms, and a base that will need levelling. Caerleon is older still.
