The living room is the dry room that is seen most, which is why it is where the engineered oak and the parquet in the range go; the choice is width, finish and pattern rather than material. In Bridgend 90% of homes are houses, most of them semi-detached houses (39%), so the questions are the subfloor and the underlay rather than impact sound.
Living Room in Bridgend
The Bridgend district counts 62,360 households in the 2021 census, and the mix of houses and flats in that count is what decides how a living room floor is specified here.
Semi-detached houses are 39% of the Bridgend stock, and the semi's living room in Bridgend is often knocked through from the bay to the garden. A long room takes a longer board and, laid towards the light, reads longer still; the 150 mm Cobham range or a herringbone set out from the centre suits it. Where the room crosses from timber onto the concrete of an extension, the two are levelled to each other first.
Owner-occupation is 71% in Bridgend, and the living room is the room an owner-occupier in Bridgend spends on: engineered oak with a 3 mm or thicker wear layer, or a herringbone, laid once and refinished when the time comes. The finish decides the care, oil patched by the room, lacquer recoated across it.

Local fact sheet
Bridgend in the 2021 census: 62,360 households, 90% houses, 10% flats.
Bridgend covers CF31, CF32 and CF35 — Bridgend Central, the four Brackla wards, Bryntirion, Laleston and Merthyr Mawr, Aberkenfig, Blackmill, and Brynna and Llanharan. It is a Welsh unitary authority. Ownership stood at 70.5% at the 2021 census and private renting at 15.3%, up three points on 2011. Brackla is a large late-twentieth-century estate and behaves quite differently from the older terraces nearer the town centre: the first is a solid slab, often with a screed, the second is suspended timber over a void. Both take engineered wood, but the preparation is not the same job, and quoting one when you have the other is how a fitting overruns.
Hundreds of Brackla houses were raised in a single period and built to the same detail, which is not how most towns work. It makes the neighbours' floor real evidence about your own: what came up in one hallway is very likely what will come up in the next.
North of the town, the valley communities of Aberkenfig, Blackmill, Garw Valley and Gilfach-goch hold the oldest and most exposed housing, where warmth underfoot counts as much as looks. Build to insulate, with a proper underlay beneath an engineered board rather than the thinnest possible height.

Engineered oak in the width the room can carry is the floor most living rooms in Bridgend end up with: it looks like the solid timber it is on top, takes underfloor heating and can be sanded. A herringbone suits a room with length, laminate suits a budget, and rigid vinyl suits a living room that opens onto the kitchen.
Wide boards calm a large room and dominate a small one; narrow boards suit a terraced front room. The range runs from 90 mm solid boards to 220 mm engineered planks, and the plank-width guide linked below weighs it up.
The rigid-vinyl range can run through both, because it is listed as waterproof. An oak floor stops at the kitchen door or accepts the risk of a leak; many Bridgend homes run the oak to the threshold and the vinyl beyond it in a matching tone.
Yes, and it matters more here than most places: the sample comes to a CF31 or CF35 address, so the board is judged in the room it will be laid in and under the light that room has, not under a showroom's ceiling in Cardiff.
Yes. We deliver across Bridgend and South Wales from our UK warehouse, including the CF31, CF32 and CF35 postcode districts. Delivery cost and timing depend on the delivery postcode and are shown at checkout, and samples come by post first so the floor can be seen in the room before the full order.
Yes: cut samples are £1.99 each, up to two per product, posted to your Bridgend address. Two or three side by side on the floor, in the room's own light morning and evening, settle the colour faster than any photograph.
