Newbury covers RG14 and RG20 — Newbury Central, Clay Hill, Greenham, Speen and Wash Common, with Chieveley and Cold Ash, Hungerford and Kintbury around them. It sits in West Berkshire, a unitary authority. Ownership was 67.6% at the 2021 census and private renting 17.1%. Newbury has a dense historic core — the town was a cloth-making centre from the medieval period — and a ring of much later development around it.
