Wrexham's homes, by the numbers

Wrexham in the 2021 census: 57,916 households, 88% houses, 11% flats.

Wrexham covers LL11, LL12, LL13 and LL14 — Acton and Maesydre, Borras Park, Brynyffynnon, Bryn Cefn, Brymbo, and out to Acrefair and Caergwrle. It became a Welsh unitary authority in 1996 and a city in 2022. Social renting is high at 21.0% and private renting rose 3.9 points to 15.8% between the censuses, against ownership of 62.5% — over a third of homes rented. Wrexham grew on coal and brewing and much of the terraced stock dates from that period: suspended timber at ground level, over a void, and usually needing levelling before anything is laid. The former colliery villages around Brymbo are later and more often solid.
