Living Room Flooring in Wrexham

The living room is the dry room that is seen most, which is why it is where the engineered oak and the parquet in the range go; the choice is width, finish and pattern rather than material. In Wrexham 89% of homes are houses, most of them semi-detached houses (38%), so the questions are the subfloor and the underlay rather than impact sound.

Living Room in Wrexham

Living Room flooring in Wrexham: what the housing says

The Wrexham district counts 57,916 households in the 2021 census, and the mix of houses and flats in that count is what decides how a living room floor is specified here.

Semi-detached houses are 38% of the Wrexham stock, and the semi's living room in Wrexham is often knocked through from the bay to the garden. A long room takes a longer board and, laid towards the light, reads longer still; the 150 mm Cobham range or a herringbone set out from the centre suits it. Where the room crosses from timber onto the concrete of an extension, the two are levelled to each other first.

Detached houses are 32% of the homes in Wrexham, and a large living room is the one place the widest boards in the range belong: the 190 mm Weybridge and the 220 mm Victorian Antique planks fill it calmly, and a Versailles panel makes it formal. A large room is also a large batch, ordered in one go so the shade holds across the floor.

Social renting is 21% of households in Wrexham, and the living room in that stock is usually laminate across a programme, AC4 and E1, laid fast and floated; where a provider specifies timber, it is an engineered board to one specification across the units.

Living rooms at Borras Park and Acton

Semis and detached houses together make up most of Wrexham, and ownership remains the largest tenure despite all that letting. A living room in one of those belongs to whoever intends to stay, and engineered oak is worth the difference there in a way it never is on a turnover job.

Local fact sheet

Wrexham's homes, by the numbers

Wrexham in the 2021 census: 57,916 households, 88% houses, 11% flats.

Wrexham covers LL11, LL12, LL13 and LL14 — Acton and Maesydre, Borras Park, Brynyffynnon, Bryn Cefn, Brymbo, and out to Acrefair and Caergwrle. It became a Welsh unitary authority in 1996 and a city in 2022. Social renting is high at 21.0% and private renting rose 3.9 points to 15.8% between the censuses, against ownership of 62.5% — over a third of homes rented. Wrexham grew on coal and brewing and much of the terraced stock dates from that period: suspended timber at ground level, over a void, and usually needing levelling before anything is laid. The former colliery villages around Brymbo are later and more often solid.

Getting on for nine of every ten Wrexham homes are houses, and the converted flat is close to absent, so an order here is normally the whole place at once rather than a single room in a shared building. From LL11 through to LL13 that is one decision covering the ground floor and the stairs.

A ground floor at Brynyffynnon or Cartrefle runs colder than the room and trades moisture with it all season; the later stock does not. Condition boards where they will live.

Delivery times and options depend on the delivery postcode. See Delivery & Returns for the applicable estimate.

Guides

Before you choose

Before you order in Wrexham

  • Width for the room Narrow boards for a small room, wide for a large one. Lay towards the main window so the grain runs with the light.
  • Oil or lacquer Oil is patched where it wears; lacquer is recoated across the room. Choose by how the floor will be kept.
  • One batch, plus the allowance The whole room from one batch, with 8 to 12 percent over for a plank and 15 to 20 for a pattern.
  • Front room over a void The semi's front room is on joists over a void. Airbricks clear, boards screwed down, then the floor; a knocked-through room brings the concrete kitchen into the same plane.
  • Wide boards for the long room The 190 and 220 mm boards suit a large reception room; lay towards the main window. One batch for the whole room.
  • Consent, then a click floor A tenancy agreement usually needs the landlord's consent for a hard floor. The click laminate and vinyl lift again at the end of the tenancy.

Questions

Living Room flooring in Wrexham: questions, answered

What flooring suits a living room in Wrexham?

Engineered oak in the width the room can carry is the floor most living rooms in Wrexham end up with: it looks like the solid timber it is on top, takes underfloor heating and can be sanded. A herringbone suits a room with length, laminate suits a budget, and rigid vinyl suits a living room that opens onto the kitchen.

Wide or narrow boards for a living room?

Wide boards calm a large room and dominate a small one; narrow boards suit a terraced front room. The range runs from 90 mm solid boards to 220 mm engineered planks, and the plank-width guide linked below weighs it up.

Can I run the same floor from the living room into the kitchen?

The rigid-vinyl range can run through both, because it is listed as waterproof. An oak floor stops at the kitchen door or accepts the risk of a leak; many Wrexham homes run the oak to the threshold and the vinyl beyond it in a matching tone.

Which flooring is best for Wrexham homes?

Specify for the house, not the room. One engineered oak carried through hall, up the stairs and across a Garden Village sitting room reads as a single floor, with nosings cut to match; lay SPC past the kitchen door, where boots come in from the garden.

Do you deliver living room flooring to Wrexham?

Yes. We deliver across Wrexham and North Wales from our UK warehouse, including the LL11, LL12 and LL13 postcode districts. Delivery cost and timing depend on the delivery postcode and are shown at checkout, and samples come by post first so the floor can be seen in the room before the full order.

Can I see a living room sample before ordering in Wrexham?

Yes: cut samples are £1.99 each, up to two per product, posted to your Wrexham address. Two or three side by side on the floor, in the room's own light morning and evening, settle the colour faster than any photograph.
