Herringbone is the traditional zig-zag and forgives a squarer room; chevron is the continuous arrow and wants a room with length. Chevron blocks are mitred, so the setting-out is less forgiving and the border matters more. The comparison guide takes it further.

The oak chevron is for dry rooms. For a patterned floor in a kitchen the rigid-vinyl herringbone, listed as waterproof, is the range to look at; there is no vinyl chevron in the range.
In a let, photograph the floor on the day it goes down. Fair wear and actual damage are argued over at every check-out, and a textured mid-tone surface makes the difference visible without exaggerating it. Keep the batch reference with the inventory.
