Herringbone is the traditional zig-zag and forgives a squarer room; chevron is the continuous arrow and wants a room with length. Chevron blocks are mitred, so the setting-out is less forgiving and the border matters more. The comparison guide takes it further.

The oak chevron is for dry rooms. For a patterned floor in a kitchen the rigid-vinyl herringbone, listed as waterproof, is the range to look at; there is no vinyl chevron in the range.
It suits those houses, provided the subfloor is flat and the set-out is planned. Herringbone shows every dip in the base and wastes more of the pack in cuts than straight planks do, so allow for both. In a divided villa, the acoustic layer beneath still comes first.
