Windsor and Maidenhead is a unitary authority, so the census figures quoted here describe the whole borough rather than the town alone: 30.7% detached, 26.1% semi-detached and 24.2% flats. Detached properties usually mean long uninterrupted runs from room to room, and long runs need a proper perimeter gap and a break at the doorway, or a floating floor will push against skirtings as it moves with the seasons. The flat share matters for a different reason, since anything laid over a neighbour's ceiling has to satisfy the lease on impact sound before the finish is even chosen.
