Bedroom Flooring in Eastleigh

A bedroom floor is walked on barefoot, heard from below and rarely spilt on, so the decision is warmth, sound and budget rather than water resistance: laminate, engineered oak and rigid vinyl all serve it. In Eastleigh 84% of homes are houses, most of them detached houses (33%), so the questions are the subfloor and the underlay rather than impact sound.

Bedroom flooring in Eastleigh: what the housing says

The Eastleigh district counts 56,922 households in the 2021 census, and the mix of houses and flats in that count is what decides how a bedroom floor is specified here.

Detached houses are 33% of the homes in Eastleigh, and a detached house has the bedrooms to floor in one material through the first floor. A laminate through all of them with thresholds at the doors, or an engineered board in the main bedroom and laminate in the rest, are the two patterns in Eastleigh.

Owner-occupation is 73% in Eastleigh, and an owner flooring a main bedroom in Eastleigh tends to choose the engineered oak, brushed and oiled, on a warm underlay: it is the floor stepped onto first in the morning. The other bedrooms take the laminate.

Local fact sheet

Eastleigh's homes, by the numbers

Eastleigh in the 2021 census: 56,922 households, 83% houses, 16% flats.

Eastleigh covers SO50 and SO53 — Eastleigh Central, North and South, Bishopstoke, Chandler's Ford, Colden Common and Twyford, and Ampfield and Braishfield. It is a district of Hampshire. Ownership was 71.0% at the 2021 census with private renting at just 13.9%, up only 1.6 points in a decade — one of the smallest shifts we see. Eastleigh, like Darlington, grew as a railway town, and the terraces built for the works are suspended timber; Chandler's Ford is largely later and solid. Two different jobs, half a mile apart. The one thing both share is that a floor bought in a high-ownership market gets lived on for a long time, so the wear layer is where the money goes.

Not every Eastleigh household owns all of the home it lives in: shared ownership means a share bought and rent paid on the rest. That puts some SO50 and SO53 houses on a lease, so at Fair Oak or Eastleigh South a floor covering can be somebody else's business even with no flat above.

A room heated through winter dries the boards in it, and summer puts the moisture back. Cut the expansion gap in a Bishopstoke floor for every one of those cycles.

Guides

Before you choose

Before you order in Eastleigh

  • Underlay for the room below A bedroom floor is heard downstairs. The underlay is chosen on its impact-sound figure, tested under EN 16354.
  • Warmth underfoot An underlay adds it; a thin floor over a cold void loses it. Over underfloor heating, thin and rated for it.
  • Thresholds at the doors A floating floor through several rooms is broken at the doorways so each room moves on its own.
  • Landing and bedrooms as one floor A floor running across the landing and into the bedrooms is broken at each doorway. One batch for all of them, with the allowance.
  • Warm, quiet, sandable A bedroom floor kept for years takes an oak with a sandable wear layer or an AC4 laminate; the underlay carries the warmth and the quiet.

Questions

Bedroom flooring in Eastleigh: questions, answered

Which floor suits a bedroom in Eastleigh?

Laminate for most bedrooms, on an underlay chosen for warmth and sound; engineered oak for a main bedroom an owner wants in timber; rigid vinyl where an en-suite opens off it. The bedroom guide linked below goes through the underlay question in detail.

Will a hard floor in the bedroom be heard downstairs?

Without the right underlay, yes. The impact-sound improvement of an underlay is tested and stated as a figure; in a flat Approved Document E and the lease set what that figure has to reach. Choose on the datasheet, not the pack.

Is laminate warm enough for a bedroom?

On the right underlay over a heated or insulated floor, yes; over a cold void with a thin underlay, no floor is. Over underfloor heating the laminates in the range are listed as compatible and the underlay is chosen for it.

Can I order flooring samples to my Eastleigh address?

Yes. Order to an Eastleigh North or Nursling and Rownhams address, then put the piece down on the floor and look at it from standing height rather than holding it up: a board at arm's length reads a shade lighter than the same board underfoot.

Do you deliver bedroom flooring to Eastleigh?

Yes. We deliver across Eastleigh and Hampshire from our UK warehouse, including the SO50, SO53 and SO97 postcode districts. Delivery cost and timing depend on the delivery postcode and are shown at checkout, and samples come by post first so the floor can be seen in the room before the full order.

Can I see a bedroom sample before ordering in Eastleigh?

Yes: cut samples are £1.99 each, up to two per product, posted to your Eastleigh address. Two or three side by side on the floor, in the room's own light morning and evening, settle the colour faster than any photograph.
