Chevron cuts each block at an angle so the boards meet in a continuous point, an arrow rather than a zig-zag; in this range it is engineered oak, 14 mm thick, glued down. In Halifax 85% of homes are houses, most of them terraced houses (41%), so the questions are the subfloor and the underlay rather than impact sound.

The arrow runs the length of a room and makes it read longer, and because the blocks are mitred the pattern asks for careful setting-out and a larger waste allowance than a plank.

The Knightsbridge Chevron comes in two faces, Knightsbridge Chevron Natural Brushed Oak and Knightsbridge Chevron Raw Oak, both 14 x 90 x 510 mm, tongue and groove, engineered, with a 3 mm wear layer and listed for underfloor heating. For the same pattern in a kitchen, the herringbone rigid-vinyl range is the click alternative; there is no chevron in vinyl in the range.

HX1, HX2 and HX3 reach Town, Park, Skircoat, Warley, Ovenden, Illingworth and Mixenden, Sowerby Bridge, Queensbury, and Northowram and Shelf. The census figures behind this page belong to Calderdale, where terraces make up 41.3% of the stock and detached homes only 15.2%. A smaller number is worth noting as well: 2.1% of dwellings are conversions of something other than a house, and a converted floor rarely matches the drawings — joist direction, added layers and old services turn up once a board comes off, so lifting a small section before ordering saves a second visit. Ownership across the district is 64.6%, with private renting at 20.4%.
Calderdale is built on hillsides, and Halifax's terraces are built into them: better than two households in five are terraced, at Park, Ovenden, Illingworth and Mixenden, Queensbury and out along Luddendenfoot. On a steep street the lower storey of a house is frequently set into the slope, with earth against the back wall rather than air.
In a room set into the slope, the floor sits below the ground outside it and moisture arrives sideways through the wall as well as upwards. Tanking, drainage or a ventilated cavity are the building's answers; the floor's part is to tolerate whatever remains after them.

Herringbone is the traditional zig-zag and forgives a squarer room; chevron is the continuous arrow and wants a room with length. Chevron blocks are mitred, so the setting-out is less forgiving and the border matters more. The comparison guide takes it further.
Both Knightsbridge Chevron boards are engineered, 14 mm thick, and listed for underfloor heating, on a screed that is dry and a system that has been commissioned first.
The oak chevron is for dry rooms. For a patterned floor in a kitchen the rigid-vinyl herringbone, listed as waterproof, is the range to look at; there is no vinyl chevron in the range.
In a stone terrace built into the bank, deal with the wall before choosing the floor, then pick a covering that would survive if the wall were to fail again. Tanking and drainage belong to the structure; the floor's job is to tolerate what remains.
