For the same pattern in a kitchen, the herringbone rigid-vinyl range is the click alternative; there is no chevron in vinyl in the range.

Kirklees is the district the census figures describe, and terraced homes there run to 31.5% of the total against 12.6% for flats of every kind — an unusually house-heavy profile at 87.3%. HD1 through HD5 make up the coverage, including Greenhead, Lindley, Golcar, Almondbury and Crosland Moor and Netherton. Whether the hard floor stops at the bottom step or carries on up the flight is a decision most people make by default. It changes how the stairs sound, how they grip underfoot and what the junction at the bottom has to look like — so it is worth making deliberately.

Herringbone is the traditional zig-zag and forgives a squarer room; chevron is the continuous arrow and wants a room with length. Chevron blocks are mitred, so the setting-out is less forgiving and the border matters more. The comparison guide takes it further.
Both Knightsbridge Chevron boards are engineered, 14 mm thick, and listed for underfloor heating, on a screed that is dry and a system that has been commissioned first.
The oak chevron is for dry rooms. For a patterned floor in a kitchen the rigid-vinyl herringbone, listed as waterproof, is the range to look at; there is no vinyl chevron in the range.
In a shared house the stairs are the most-used surface in the building, so keep a high-grip covering on them and put the hard floor in the hall below. It costs less than a full flight of nosings, and it keeps the grip where a slip would matter most.
