Salford's flats are overwhelmingly purpose-built, 27.8% of all homes against 1.4% converted from houses, and detached housing is rare at 9.4%. Ownership has fallen to 47.0%, with social renting at 25.4% and private renting at 26.8%. Herringbone is the traditional zig-zag and forgives a squarer room; chevron is the continuous arrow and wants a room with length. Chevron blocks are mitred, so the setting-out is less forgiving and the border matters more. The comparison guide takes it further.

The oak chevron is for dry rooms. For a patterned floor in a kitchen the rigid-vinyl herringbone, listed as waterproof, is the range to look at; there is no vinyl chevron in the range.
In a Quays apartment, ask for a moisture reading of the screed and read what the lease says about floor coverings. Those two answers rule most options in or out before appearance is discussed, and they are the reason most new-build floors fail early.
