For the same pattern in a kitchen, the herringbone rigid-vinyl range is the click alternative; there is no chevron in vinyl in the range.

Owner occupation has slipped from 67.2% in 2011 to 63.9%, while private renting has moved up to 21.3%. Rented homes tend to be refitted between tenancies rather than lived through, which argues for a hard-wearing wear layer and a fitting method that lets one damaged plank come out without disturbing the rest. Herringbone is the traditional zig-zag and forgives a squarer room; chevron is the continuous arrow and wants a room with length. Chevron blocks are mitred, so the setting-out is less forgiving and the border matters more. The comparison guide takes it further.

The oak chevron is for dry rooms. For a patterned floor in a kitchen the rigid-vinyl herringbone, listed as waterproof, is the range to look at; there is no vinyl chevron in the range.
In a let it is the hall and the kitchen that take the wear, and they should be specified for it even if the bedrooms are kept simple. A hard surface layer through those two rooms outlasts a deeper, softer board everywhere.
