West Northamptonshire is a unitary authority, and its 2021 return puts 86.4% of dwellings in house form: 31.7% detached, 31.6% semi-detached and 23.1% terraced, leaving flats at 13.2%. Most work therefore involves a staircase, two storeys of continuous covering and a hallway carrying the whole household, so wear rating and a consistent run of colour between rooms matter more than acoustic layers do. Solid ground floors deserve a moisture reading before anything impermeable is laid over them. In this range the rigid-vinyl planks with the 0.55 mm wear layer, listed as waterproof and rated commercial grade by the manufacturer, and the AC4 laminates for a dry hall. A brushed, oiled oak lasts as long if the grit is kept out by a mat, and it can be re-oiled where it wears.
It is the room herringbone suits best: the diagonal leads the eye along the hall and it reads wider. The small 90 x 450 mm block keeps the pattern in proportion; the rigid-vinyl herringbone does the same and takes wet boots.

In a new house there is usually a floor down already, and the first decision is whether to lift it or lay over it. Laying over saves the removal but raises the finished level; lifting it lets you see the slab and test it. Decide that before choosing a range.
