A floor is bought by the square metre and delivered on a pallet, and the delivery line depends on two things the price per square metre does not show: the postcode, and what kind of floor is in the order. The same pallet of oak costs one amount to Bristol and another to Stornoway, and an order that mixes oak and laminate has two delivery lines rather than one. Section 230 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 makes the total price, delivery included, information a buyer is owed before the purchase. So this page sets out the whole table, every zone, every postcode area and every surcharge, read from the rules the checkout itself uses, and then works five orders through it.

Every figure on this page includes VAT, as every price on Delivery & Returns does.

01

What a pallet delivery is

Orders of two boxes and above are palletised and go by a third-party pallet courier; a single box may travel by parcel courier instead. A pallet keeps long, heavy boxes flat and together from the warehouse to the kerb, which is where a pallet delivery ends: the lorry unloads at the kerbside outside the address, and someone has to be there to accept the order and sign for it.

The charge is set by two things: the zone the postcode falls in, and the product type. Engineered and solid wood, parquet, SPC and porcelain tiles share one price list. Laminate and glue-down LVT have their own. Wall panels and worktops have a third, with a list of postcodes they cannot be delivered to.

The whole table

Every postcode area the checkout delivers to sits in one of five zones, and the charge depends on the zone and on what is in the order. This is the table the checkout calculates from, read from it whenever this page is generated.

Zones 2 to 5 are the standard £60 with a surcharge of £25, £35, £75 or £125 on top. Laminate and glue-down LVT cost less in zone 1 and the same as everything else beyond it.

Wall panels and worktops have their own, shorter list. Where a postcode is not covered, the checkout will not take the panels to it.

Where the zones fall

The table names postcode areas rather than places, because the postcode is what the checkout reads. As a rough guide: zone 1 is England and Wales apart from the Isle of Wight, and in Scotland Edinburgh, Glasgow, Falkirk and Stirling, Lanarkshire, Paisley and the Borders. Zone 2 is Dumfries and Galloway, mainland Ayrshire and Fife. Zone 3 is Dundee and Angus. Zone 4 is Aberdeen and the north-east, Northern Ireland, Inverness and the Highlands up to IV40, Caithness and Sutherland, the PH area from Perth west to Fort William and Mallaig, and the Isle of Wight. Zone 5 is the Outer Hebrides, Orkney, Shetland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey, Arran and Cumbrae, Skye from IV41, and Bute, Cowal, Kintyre and the islands of Argyll from PA20.

The higher zones are the places a pallet reaches by ferry or at the end of a long road north. They are bands, not quotes: every postcode in a band pays the same, and the band is the same whether the order is oak or porcelain. Where a description above and the table disagree, the table is right.

When a product is not available

Wall panels and worktops are the one product type with postcodes the checkout will not deliver to: every Scottish postcode area, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight, and the DT, EX, PL, TQ and TR areas of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. The rest of the country takes them at the standard charge.

A basket that holds panels and something else is not refused as a whole. The checkout names the items it cannot send to that postcode, and once they are removed the rest of the order goes ahead. If you need panels for one of these postcodes, ask before ordering rather than after: contact us with the postcode and the product.

What access has to do with the price

The table is the price of a delivery that goes as planned. Pallet deliveries are kerbside by lorry, and the lorry needs a few things at the address: someone there on the day to accept the order and sign; road access, and if a bin lorry can collect from outside the property a pallet lorry usually can; a route free of low branches; a flat, hard surface to unload onto rather than gravel, grass or a slope; room to park at the kerb and to turn, which matters in narrow roads and cul-de-sacs; and notice of any parking or time restrictions.

If access is difficult and nobody said so at the time of order, redelivery or failed-delivery fees may apply. A minute spent looking at the route before ordering costs less than a second lorry.

07

Before you order

Two things settle most of the cost before the basket is full. The first is the sample. At £1.99 each, up to two per product, a sample costs less than any line in the table, and it is the one way to see a floor in the room's own light before a pallet is booked. Samples travel by Royal Mail or a parcel service, and an order of samples alone carries no pallet charge.

The second is quantity. An order that comes up short is a second order, with its own delivery line at the same rate, and the boxes in it may come from a different batch. The flooring calculator turns the room into boxes using the real pack sizes of the range, and rounds up once. Then look up the postcode in the table above, or enter it at the checkout, which applies the same rules.

Common questions

Do the delivery prices include VAT?

Yes. The figures in the tables are the amounts charged at checkout, and they include VAT, as every price on the Delivery & Returns page does.

Why does my order show two delivery charges?

Because it holds two product types. Wood, SPC and porcelain tiles have one price list and laminate and glue-down LVT another, and the checkout charges a line for each. In zone 1 that is £60 for the oak and £35 for the laminate.

Can wall panels be delivered to Scotland?

No. Every Scottish postcode area is on the not-covered list for wall panels and worktops, along with Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight and the DT, EX, PL, TQ and TR areas. The checkout will not send panels to those postcodes; the rest of an order can still go.

What does it cost to send samples?

Samples are £1.99 each, up to two per product, and travel by Royal Mail or a parcel service. An order of samples alone carries no pallet charge.

Why is the Isle of Wight in zone 4?

PO30 to PO41 are the Isle of Wight postcodes, and a pallet for the island has to cross the Solent. The rest of the PO area, Portsmouth and the mainland around it, is zone 1.

What if the lorry cannot reach the house?

Say so at the time of order. Pallet deliveries are kerbside, and the lorry needs road access, a hard, level surface and room to park and turn. Where access is difficult and we were not told in advance, redelivery or failed-delivery fees may apply.

DMCC Act 2024 — drip pricing

Section 230 of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 makes the total price of a product material information that must be given in an invitation to purchase, and defines that total price as including any fees, taxes, charges or other payments the consumer will necessarily incur. Where part of the price cannot reasonably be calculated in advance, the trader must instead say how it will be calculated.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 a consumer whose goods do not conform has a short-term right to reject, a right to repair or replacement, and a right to a price reduction or a final right to reject. The time limit for the short-term right to reject is 30 days beginning with the day after transfer of ownership, delivery and any trader installation have all taken place.

Cutting waste — how much extra to order

There is no published industry standard for cutting waste; the figures come from manufacturers' own guidance and they vary. Havwoods advises 8-12 % wastage for planks and 15-20 % for patterned floors such as herringbone or chevron. Quick-Step's UK guidance for laminate is 5 % extra in a regular room and 10 % in a room with many angles or curves.
