LVT Vinyl Flooring in Leicester

Leicester’s rented stock is large, private renting near a third of households and two universities behind much of it, and the BML rigid vinyl plank is the floor that stock keeps coming back to. It is not the wear layer that sells it but the repair: a board that a tenant has damaged comes out on its own. That the plank itself is listed as waterproof means an LE2 house can be floored from the front door to the shower room in one product, and mopped.

For an owner the same plank runs from the hall of a Clarendon Park terrace through the kitchen to the back door as one plane, on its bonded underlay over levelled boards. On the Beaumont Leys slab it needs only a checked membrane beneath it; at Ashton Green the screed is heated and the plank is listed as compatible with it. In New Walk the original boards stay under the levelling layer, which is the route that needs no consent.

Semi-detached houses are 36% of the Leicester stock, and the semi's kitchen-diner, timber at the front and concrete under the extension, is a rigid-vinyl floor more often than any other in Leicester: one click floor across both bases, an underlay chosen per base, and no seam at the join. The wear layer decides the room: 0.55 mm for the kitchen and the hall, 0.3 mm where the traffic is lighter.

Terraced houses are 29% of the homes in Leicester, and the terrace is where the rigid-vinyl range does most of its work in Leicester: the kitchen at the back, often a concrete floor with a history of damp, and the hallway that takes the traffic. A rigid board floats over both on an underlay, and its stiff core bridges the small unevenness an old floor has. Over a slab the base is checked for moisture first; BS 8203 practice puts the limit at 75 percent relative humidity under a sealed hygrometer.
