A tenement kitchen usually sits at the end of a long hall, and everything wet in the flat passes through it. The floor needs to take that, and it needs the acoustic layer the title deeds require underneath it either way.

Vinyl keeps the whole build-up shallow; porcelain over a levelled base is harder-wearing but adds height a period door frame may not give you.
The tenement kitchen carries the acoustic duty to the neighbour below and the water of the flat above it, and the floor is chosen after both are settled: a resilient layer under a levelled deck, and a surface that does not mind a mop. The BML rigid vinyl plank adds little height at the hall door; porcelain from the tile range is the harder surface but adds height and weight a Victorian door and joist may not give.
In the Sighthill and Dundashill homes the kitchen is open-plan on a heated screed, and both the vinyl plank and the porcelain tile are listed as compatible with the heating; the tile warms the room faster, the plank is warmer to stand on before it does. In a Pollokshields villa the kitchen is usually a later extension on a slab, and the damp-proof membrane is checked at the join with the old house.

Over 77,000 Glasgow homes predate 1919 — about a quarter of the city's entire stock — and the defining type is the pre-1919 tenement. That single fact settles most flooring questions here. You are laying over timber joists with a neighbour underneath, so impact sound insulation is a requirement of the title deeds in most tenements, not a refinement. The original boarding under the carpet is usually sound but rarely level, so budget for levelling. In the Glasgow West, Dennistoun, Park and Strathbungo conservation areas, and in any listed tenement, that boarding is protected. Sighthill, Dundashill, Hamiltonhill and Wyndford are new build — screed, underfloor heating, engineered wood.
Glasgow's tenements are built around the common close: a shared stone stair with flats off it on every landing. That single detail governs more about a flooring order here than the choice of board — how it arrives, how far it has to be carried, and how much height there is once it is in.
A close stair turns tightly and the flat doors are original, so board length and total build-up are both constrained before a range is chosen. Ask for the pack length and the finished height at the quotation stage; a shorter format often solves on paper what would otherwise be solved by cutting on the landing.

There are two candidates in the range and the room decides: rigid vinyl listed as waterproof, warmer and quieter and forgiving of an old base, or porcelain tile, harder and permanent. The kitchen guide linked below compares them.
Engineered oak is fitted in kitchens with a sealed finish and wiped-up spills, but it is not listed as waterproof and a leak under a dishwasher will mark it. Where the look of wood is wanted with the listing, the rigid-vinyl planks and herringbone are the answer.
The HSE grades slip potential by pendulum test value, with 36 or above rated low. Two of the porcelain tiles in the range carry an R11 rating in the listing; for a domestic kitchen the floor is chosen for the spill and the mop as much as for the rating.
Wet weather outside matters less than when the floor is fitted. In a flat that has stood cold and damp, boards need longer in the room to reach the moisture content they will hold once it is heated — so a January fit wants more settling time than a July one, not less.
